I can talk about the career lessons found in The Nightmare Before Christmas for a very long time.
Yet, very few people can. So, allow me to share a few key lessons:
🤦♀️The main character gets thrilled about a new job, specifically being Santa Claus (or Sandy Claus). But that job is a bad fit for him. That is also true for you: not every job is for you, even if it looks super amazing. Focus on your brilliance.
😒 The main character is a brilliant Halloween King and it has gotten stale. He creates all sorts of chaos when what he needed to do was acknowledge that it is okay to go through periods and phases of boredom, exploration, and creativity. You will go through dips too, that’s okay.
😴The main character needed to rest, recovery, reflect, and consider. Instead, he jumped into unhelpful action. When rest is extremely underrated and uncomfortable for you, this is the time to consider leaning in. Take a nap. Take a day off. Relax. Then take action.
😲 The main character gets a lot of support. Not every type of support is helpful (Lock, Shock, and Barrel, everyone?), even when that support feels good. This is true for you: examine the help and advice you are getting. What you want may not be what you need.
🙉 The main character had one person who was truly trying to help him. She was a woman and she was ignored (le sigh). She was ignored because her insight wasn’t what the main character wanted to hear. This is true for you too: sometimes what you need to hear is not what you are willing to hear. Listen early, especially if you are seen as a leader.
