Particularly in your career, it is very important that you identify that what people say and do is about them, not about you. Are you turning data about other people – who they are, what they do, how they think – into information about you? For example, let’s say you share an idea and your boss grabs it and makes it their own, potentially slowing down your career success. Do you make their behavior mean something about you? For example, that you shouldn’t share ideas or that you don’t deserve to be more visible? If you do, I say this with all my love, please start building the bravery to stop. Because you didn’t learn anything about yourself, your career growth, your potential, or your quality of work. You did learn about your boss. Your boss (in this example) is a person who grabs ideas and slaps their name on it. That’s it. Now you get to decide what to do with that new information. Instead of spinning, turn the new data into new information with the evaluation framework, the crucial conversation framework, and into your decision framework. Particularly if you are in leadership, tech, or STEM generally, this episode is for you. This week’s Celebrate Brave podcast episode is a fiery one. Early listeners already shared it is also “one of the best.”
