HIGHLIGHTS:
Ensure you know which story you believe
We are all told a lot of stories from outside of who we really are. One aspect of being successful as a woman in tech is being very clear about your own story and choosing to believe it.
Being a woman in an industry currently dominated by men
Vonda and Nicole share about how it can be to build a career in an industry currently dominated by men. It can feel like that environment doesn’t really want you, especially when we are the first and the only.
Vonda shares a powerful book to explore the behavior patterns that show up in scarcity.
Share stories and teach others to build their brave
Vonda and Nicole share how being a story and sharing our own stories is so powerful to self-believe, success on individual terms, and lifing up others. When women in tech continue to share learnings and lessons, and also keep on going and keep building out more and greater solutions, we will only improve the industry.
It is common but not normal
It’s common for women to be underpaid, it’s not normal. It’s common for black women to get 63 cents for every dollar that a non-Hispanic white male makes, but it’s not normal. It’s common for people to have three and four interviews to get a job, but it’s not normal.
Role models inspired and encourage
Vonda and Nicole swap role models include James Baldwin, Zora Neale Hurston, Ruth Bader Ginsberg, and Sojourner Truth.
