Welcome to the celebrate brave podcast.

I’m Nicole Trick Steinbach, your host, and the international bravery coach. On a mission to redefine brave. How we identify it, live it, and most importantly, celebrate it. Because when you build your brave, you change your world and that changes the world. Talk about something to celebrate. Let’s go.

Hello, brave people! Today I am going to talk about one of the most powerful questions. Who do you want to be? And how does she feel? You know, if you’re like me, you have spent decades being asked, what do you wanna be when you grow up? What do you do for a living? What do you want your family to look like? What do you want to do about that problem? What, what, what, what, and these are valuable questions. I just heard it myself. Think about my build your brave framework. Tell it to your dentist. It’s all about specificity, unique specificity so that your commitment grows, your momentum grows, with experience it like a kindergartener and importantly, you’re so specific and it’s so unique to you other people can offer their support to you. So there is incredible value in the what questions and underneath the foundation. Is who, who do you want to be?

Now as a child of therapy, which, y’all huge fan of therapy, as a child of therapy of course, I’ve been asked this question in various forms throughout my various therapists, and thank God for all, y’all I am internally grateful. And in my own investment in myself, in career coaching in life coaching, health coaching, of course, this question comes up and, no matter how many times it comes up, it remains a powerful shift. And I remain intensely curious at my own answers because who I am today does not often, let’s be real here, match up with who I am becoming so that I accomplish my goal, my build your brave goal, whatever that may be and to accomplish that goal, I need to be the person who accomplishes that goal.

A few months ago, a business coach of mine asked me this question and it was like lightning from the sky.

Who. I had lost track of who. I had gotten engaged with,  how am I reaching out to people? How many clients do I want? How much am I charging them? How am I in network with people, how to have a blah, blah, blah. And of course, it was 2020 at the same time. So there was the big question of what are we doing next? And how on earth are we doing it? Because schooling from home, working from home, living from home, all the things, right?

So when she brought this question into this space, Boom, boom. And dear listener, dear brave soul. This is a moment of bravery for me. I didn’t like my answer. I liked a lot of my answer and there was too much in the; who am I being, that I did not, like.

I realized through journaling. This was the technique that I took, journaling and talking it out with my accountability partners, my brave people, my three to five brave people. And I realized that far too often I was graspy, I was worried, I was limited. And envious. Oh gosh. So I’m being honest. Yes. I continued to externally celebrate others cause we all lift each other up. Good old gals network, unite. And by the way, side note, you can be a dude. You can be a guy and be in the good old gals network.  Cause that’s how we roll. Anyhow, but I wasn’t celebrating on the inside. I was envious. I was jealous. I felt it. And even worse, I was disconnected. Oh goodness. Just, uh, that word disconnected. Whew. That was the killer for me. I was disconnected.

So, journaling for clarity, talking for clarity. It’s wonderful to be clear, of course. And that’s not where we stay. That’s not how brave people roll right?. We get clear-ish, we get an insight, we get a peek view and then we go into experiencing it like a kindergartner. There are a bunch of ways if you’re listening to this and you’re like, Ooh, I’m actually usually not super excited about who I am being, or maybe who I am right now is not who I am becoming to accomplish my goal.

There are a bunch of ways to identify who you will become, who is you’re next iteration. You’re next upgrade, your next 2.0 3.0 4.0 15.0 version of who you are, right. The way that I chose to do it, this time is called the desire map. And it’s by Danielle Laporte L A P O R T E. That’s how much I want you to go out and find this. And the concept behind it is you identify core desired feelings.

There’s a whole process around this. For me, many parts of that process were very helpful. Some were irrelevant. You take what serves you and you leave behind what doesn’t, but here’s what happened. Very clearly and very quickly. There were pieces of who I was that I was carrying forward. I was carrying forward, brave, confident, empowered. Yes. Carrying forward and, connected, in service. And then I made up my own little phrase cause we need to do that. Audacious health and wealth. Connected, in service, audacious health and wealth. Who do I want to be? How does she feel? I’m not going to throw the baby out with the bathwater, brave, confident, empowered, carrying that right on forward.

And now these past months have been building the feelings of connection, in service and, audacious health and wealth. So the what; tell it to your dentist. The momentum; experience it like a kindergartner and the accountability, that consistency; own it like a boss.

When I look back just a few months and I experienced myself now. Who do I want to be? Who am I becoming? Wildly different experiences. And you deserve that too. So take a few minutes today. Who do you want to become? Give it a journal, give it an external thought. Maybe play with some value cards, explore the desire map. You deserve to be exactly who you wish to be and feel the empowered, the desired feelings that are super unique to who you are and who you are becoming. What a wonderful gift.
