Celebrate BRAVE Podcast
Together we are redefining BRAVE:
how we identify | how we live it | how we celebrate it
Jenn Kurtek: Unexpected Global Woman in Tech
Episode Description
Be prepared to get travel envy as Jenn shared her travels (spoiler: more than Nicole’s 25 countries!)
From doing marketing for a bridal shop to closing up her life in Philadelphia, shifting her entire career, and stepping into years of travel and work with her husband.
Jenn shares how she moved her career from “an obvious choice” but one that made her “feel the dread” to stop and rethink her choice. Which is how she unexpectedly became a woman in tech.
Jenn on her unexpected path of being a woman in tech, “Sometimes I’m talking to my husband about it and I can see he’s turning off because I realize I’m getting a little too techie. And then I even realize I’m getting a little techie, and I am like “How did this happen”?!
HIGHLIGHTS:
Getting out of your comfort zone and do something you actually enjoy doing
Jenn shares how she had to break out of her bubble numerous times before she broke out of it by following her passion. She found herself spending six to seven hours a day learning through free trials of websites, software, solutions, and more.
Brave is being disappointing everyone else, but never yourself
Jenn shares how she chose to disappoint rather than settle into her own disappointment. Her clarity showed her that no matter what others said, she was following her dream. The key mindset was, “What are you going to be doing to make yourself happy?”
Seeing opportunities, not obstacles or problems.
In many situations, you can choose to see obstacles or problems. You ended up taking a direction and it may be totally different from the path you thought you were on. It’s just being open to whatever experiences come your way. You can choose how you see that.
Unexpected brave role model: Anthony Bourdain
Jenn shares how Anthony Bourdain is a BRAVE role model. He not only travelled the world, challenges ideas and concepts, explored food and people, he also left a lovely record of his death by suicide and his soul. We go through difficult times and we can still all be role models. Our choices are ours and we can honor someone. We can appreciate them. We can learn from them. There are no pedestals.
