Celebrate BRAVE Podcast
Together we are redefining BRAVE:
how we identify | how we live it | how we celebrate it
Arezou Zarafshan - Now is the Time to DO Something
Episode Description
“If I believe in a mission, I don’t stop. I do stop toxicity when I sense it. And then I pick a different path and keep going”; Arezou – mom, entrepreneur, former global executive, immigrant, mentor, and role model
Breaking free of a toxic situation that did not serve her. When the toxic situation impacted her health, she made a huge decision to leave a successful job as an executive.
Change and growth mean investments. Leaving the job left her unsure of who she was as a person outside of her professional self. For 6 months, she explored and invested in herself — including the very prestigious Kellog executive professional development – to develop her identity outside of the corporate world.
The mental load of taking care of EVERYTHING, on top of your career, is real. Arezou knew it and so founded a company to solve the real-world problem shared by tens of millions of families around the world.
HIGHLIGHTS:
Recognizing a toxic situation
How do people become able to see a toxic situation before it hurts, and change it? Most of those people have been in toxic situations, have learned the signs, and know it doesn’t improve with hard work.
When you have time to reflect
Arezou shares how she was forced to take time off because of her health and in that time she reflected. She was facing a situation: go back to the same situation but with a bigger title, bigger job, bigger pay, or choose herself. It was right in the middle of the 2008 recession.
To acknowledge the change you need to go through
Arezou shared how her corporate identity was her defining element, so changing her identity for herself was one of the hardest things that she has ever done in her life. It was a humbling experience.
You want to reach that next level? You must invest in yourself
Arezou shares how she invested time, effort, and money into her growth. If you want to become a 6-figure earner, a 7-figure earner, you have to invest like one. If you want to be the best executive leader you can be, you invest in the systems, relationships, mindset, and networks like the best of all executive leaders. Arezou did that.
Stop making up excuses, now is the best time to do something
Arezou powerfully shares her success mode: “You want to do something, do something. There is no better time. Finally, I listened to myself and I said, no, I will do this now. Now is the best time.”
